2013 Election Results

Director Samanich updated members on National activities, the moving of Miami HQ, the latest on seminars, conferences, scholarships, etc.  We also received updates on things going on in District 21 (HI, S. CA, LV, and AZ) especially the upcoming District Director elections and were introduced to one of the nominees, our current Deputy Director, Sam Lindsey, San Diego Section Chair.
Section Officer nominees were presented and the elections process was explained from the by-laws.  As with many large organizations, this process is not a matter of a popularity contest or competition. It is more a nominating process by chosen representatives of the membership which is then confirmed by the membership. There were no nominees from the floor and the election confirmed the nominees presented.  The list of the officers for July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015 is below.

AZ Section Chairman & Certification Comm Chair: Brent E. Boling; Pres, Arc-Tech Welding, Inc (an AWS Sustaining Company), AWS/CWI Special Inspector, Current Section Chairman, Current Certification Committee Chairman.
AZ Section 1st Vice Chairman & Membership Comm Chair: Jerry Siko, District Manager for Lincoln Electric; past Section Officer.
AZ Section 2nd Vice Chairman & Program Comm Chair: Nick Martinez; QC/NDT for SRP; AWS/CWI; Current Program Committee Chairman.

AZ Section Secretary & Technical Comm Chair: Gary Gardner; QC for Milling Machinery; AWS/SCWI; Current Section Secretary, Current Technical Committee Chairman.

AZ Section Treasurer & Foundation and Scholarship Comm Chair: Paul Moreno; Weld Lead for Modern Industries; Part time weld instructor at Maricopa Skills Center; Current Committee Chairman and assistant on Certification Committee.

AZ Section Education and Student Affairs Committee Chairman: Buddy May; Welding Instructor at Mohave Community College, AWS Student Chapter Advisor

AZ Section Skills USA Rep: Andrew Lamer; Mingus Union High School Welding Instructor and Skills USA rep.

The by-laws authorize the Chairman to appoint Committee Chairmen to any positions the Section has need of.  There will be some ongoing additions to these positions as members continue to make themselves available for service.  Several people stepped forward at the meeting and offered their services.  We are placing people in positions where they and the section leadership feel they can best assist in the carrying out of our sections services to our AWS membership.
