Blacksmithing demonstrations by the students of Assabet Valley Metal Fabrication and Welding Department will be held in the Metal Fabrication and Welding Shop. Under the supervision of lead instructor and smithy Neil Mansfield both current and past graduate students they will demonstrate hot forging techniques and metallurgy using a forge furnaces, hammers and anvils. Cold metal working techniques such as repossue which is embossing creative designs into cooper, brass and bronze sheet metal will also be demonstrated. Also on display will be an array of forging projects done at the school by past and present students. Assabet Valley Students recently competed and won for the fourth year in a row the forging competition in Fitchburg, MA. The student’s creative panels from the Fitchburg competition will be on display. A small fabricated and welded farm tractor will be on display with a guided talk in how the students made it. Mr. Mansfield will demonstrate organic forged and welded forms ranging from garden grates, hand railings and iron fences.

A hot meal is planned for the American Welding Society members and guest to be put on by the Assabet Culinary Arts department at the Eppi room. The meal will be served in the on site restaurant. The meal will be $11.00 per person. It will be your best meal of the week.

Drive around to back of school where you will see the metal fabrication door # 4 next to large exhaust fan. We will meet in shop and then proceed to Epicurean Restaurant.
