On May 27th 2009, The Rio Grande Valley Section hosted the 1st Annual Welding-The Gold Career Day at South Texas College’s Technology Campus at Miltary Hwy and S. Ware Rd. in McAllen. Over 300 students from high schools from Zapata to Port Isabel attended. The event included welding demonstrations, technical sessions, employer recruitment and a trade show. There were 28 exhibitors including welding suppliers, fabricators, employers, technical schools, and local college and universities. South Texas College donated everything including food for the exhibitors and all the labor. STC’s facilities were perfect for this type of event. It was a great show and the RGV Section is looking forward to hosting the event next year in a partnership with South Texas College.
